No Fever!!!
Posted by: Carlos @ 1:28 pm

Kayla continues to do well this morning. She has been without fever since last night, however she will have to remain without fever for 48 hrs before allowed to go home. Blood Cultures are being done every 12 hrs and antibiotics administered every 6 hrs to help her body combat infection. They have not determined the cause of the fever and we may never know. The latest blood count showed an upward trend therefore she may be coming home sometime on Saturday.

Linda has been staying at the hospital while Stephanie Carter (sister in law) and Ms Honey (mother in law) take turns with Alex. I am dividing my time between work, home and the hospital. Kayla’s pediatrician has been of amazing support to all of us. She is indeed a prayer warrior and a great source of confidence and strength. We appreciate and love her very much.

We welcome our family from Honduras to our prayer arsenal, it is good to have you on board. Our family has been showered with attention and prayers and for this we are eternally grateful. My words are not adequate to express how much this means to us. It is one thing when people do nice things for you, but when people love your children that is a completely different game. You have done just that, you have loved our children and that touches a very tender spot in our hearts.

Please continue to pray for infections to leave Kayla’s body and for her blood count to go back to normal levels while we gear up for our next trip to Memphis.

Back in the Hospital

Kayla developed a fever last night and had to be taken to Providence Hospital. She is being medicated with antibiotics. Her low blood count and fever requires hospitalization and close monitoring for next couple of days. Please pray for her white blood cells to come back up so her body can fight whatever infection there is.

Back Home

We are back in Mobile after a safe day of travel. Kayla’s apetite has increased slightly and no nausea nor vomiting to report, “Praise GOD”. Her energy level has also increased.

Our next visit to St Jude is on June 9th. CT scan and MRI will help doctors evaluate shrinkage and how to proceed. We continue to pray and expect Divine Intervention, as doctors assess the current situation and plan the next move. In the next two weeks blood counts will be done twice a week.

So many of you have invested time and prayers, extended your helping hands, sent cards, e-mails, food and money. We are so grateful for your good deeds and pray that it will be returned to you in abundance and in ways that you have never expected.

Blessings,

Carlos, Linda, Kayla and Alex

Out of the hospital

Kayla is now out of the hospital. She has had very little appetite and a couple of vomiting incidents. I pray for our Heavenly Father to breathe life and strength back into Kayla’s body and for His presence to flood our lives while we continue to stand with our daughter in this difficult time.

We are however driving back to Mobile tomorrow morning.

We are going home

Kayla continues to do well and feel well. Thank you for your consistent prayers against the chemotherapy side effects. This morning they are processing our paper work so Kayla can be released from the hospital sometime this afternoon.

We will spend the night in Memphis and drive back home tomorrow morning. Home Heath services have been secured because for the next seven to ten days Kayla will need a daily shot of G-CSF (Granulocyte colony stimulating factor). This is a natural hormone to prevent her blood count to go as low as it did after the first treatment. I should be back at work Friday, then going into a long weekend.

We will continue to limit Kayla’s contact with other adults and children as a preventive measure against decease or infection. I continue to be amazed at the level or care and support we are receiving at St Jude, definitely a worthy cause to be a part of if one is looking for an organization to sow into. Please visit http://www.tg.stjude.org for more information.

Last nights treatment went without any problems. Kayla is already asking how much longer before we go home. She will remain in the hospital today and possibly be dismissed tomorrow. Thank you for your faithfulness and constant prayers for her healing.

Round two underway
Posted by: Carlos @ 10:41 pm

Arrived in Memphis on Sunday night. Today Kayla had blood work done to insure she was ready for the next round of chemotherapy. She was admitted into the hospital at 4:00 pm and will remain there until late Wednesday or early Thursday. We have been told this next round of drugs has a higher probability of causing nausea and vomiting, we also have been told “I will never leave you nor forsake you” so we are standing on HIS word and praying for the known side effects not to have any effect on Kayla.

God willing we will be going home either Thursday or Friday. Please continue to pray for Kayla’s body to be strong, for tumors to disappear in Kayla and children around here and for our faith to grow with the understanding that The Lord is in control.

We believe in modern medicine and well trained physicians, but we also believe in and expect miracles.

As of yesterday Kayla’s blood count was back up and suitable for round two of chemotherapy. We are driving to St Jude in Memphis this coming Sunday after church. The treatment is schedule to take three or four days so we may be back in Mobile as soon as Friday. Please pray for safe travel and peace for the days ahead.

Thank you for your prayers.

Carlos.
